By Eric J. Westendorf December 7, 2007 (Sarver, PA) — Lernerville Speedway’s rich history will get richer in 2008. To celebrate its 40th anniversary season, the winner of Lernerville’s signature events — the Firecracker 100 and the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup — will take home $40,000. A staple on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series circuit since 1992, the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup was televised as part of the “SuperClean Summer of Money” on ESPN2 in ’07. Like last season, Cleveland Brothers CAT has signed to be title sponsor for the 2008 Silver Cup as the event remains the highest single-day purse on the World of Outlaws tour. Donny Schatz will be aiming for his third consecutive Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup title on Tuesday, July 15, when he rolls into Sarver, Pa., in his new Tony Stewart Racing machine. While the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup has an established tradition, the Firecracker 100 is building on its hugely successful 2007 inaugural event. The two-day World of Outlaws Late Model Series show quickly became a must-see event for dirt late model fans across the country as the Firecracker 100 was the biggest stock car race in Western Pennsylvania history. The 60-car field featured a “Who’s Who” of dirt late model drivers, including champions from every national and regional series as well as every major late model event in the country. When the dust settled on Saturday night it was big show specialist Scott Bloomquist celebrating in Victory Lane. Following the success of the 2007 Firecracker 100, this season’s race set for Friday-Saturday, June 27-28, will be even more competitive than the inaugural event. Ticket information will be released in time for the holidays, but you can reserve your seats for either event before they go on sale by calling the Lernerville Speedway office during normal business hours at 724-353-1511, or check out Lernerville.com for more information.
