Australian Steve Lines wins first US 410 race

Kevin Bolland wins third of the year, 45th of career

Sarver, PA (July 10, 2009) Lernerville welcomed Commercial Truck & Trailer and #1 Cochran Automotive Friday Night for the rescheduled Holiday Races featuring Fireworks by Premier Pyrotechnics and Nostalgia Night hosted by Don Gamble.  But the fireworks weren’t the only thing lighting up the sky on this beautiful summer night.  With over eighty cars signed in the pits, the wide eyes of over five thousand fans weere fixated on cheering their favorite driver to Sheetz Victory Lane.

Thousands of eager race fans cheered as the Friedman’s Freshmarkets DIRTcar Late Models paraded around the track.  An initial caution on lap one due to a spin by Todd Bachman, along with a second caution on lap two for a spinning Herman Bertolini, caused the crowd’s anticipation to intensify.  On the second restart, polesitter Denton Boyer took an impressive lead right away until suddenly, coming off of turn four, a red flag was thrown when Jared Miley took a wicked flip that caused him to role three times before finally landing on his roof!  Luckily, Miley exited his car unharmed.  Again, they were off and again with Boyer maintaining the lead, but a stampede of hard charging cars was hot on his tail.  Alex Ferree made his way to second by lap seven and Doug Horton found his spot in fourth by lap nine.  Sandwiched between them, “Double Duty” Dave Murdick seemed to be stuck in third.  Boyer was eventually demoted to second as Ferree stole the lead on lap 12, but a bit of tough luck found second place running Boyer when he was forced to retire to the pits not to return.  Ferree and Horton were then left to battle it out for that first place glory.  These two raced nearly door to door until the final turn and at last, Two-Time Defending Track Champion Alex Ferree took home his first feature win of the 2009 season!  For the third time this season, Doug Horton finished second.  Dave Murdick had another strong run in the Pitkavish #1J to finish third.  Gary Lyle in fourth and a Ken Schaltenbrand in fifth rounded out the top five. Heat races went to Dave Murdick and John Mollick.

Under the guidance of Jack Sodeman Jr. and Australian Invader Steve Lines, the Commercial Truck & Trailer DIRTcar Sprints mashed the gas for the 25-lap feature.  Lines jumped out to a torrid pace early in the race, but was slowed by the first caution on lap seven brought out by Kevin Schaeffer.  Off the second caution brought out by Garrett Krummett, Lines brought the field to a crawl atop turn three then quickly laid on the gas getting off an amazing run to the cone. In the end, the Australian led all 25 laps, collected his first Lernerville victory along with his first 410 win on his USA tour.  The rest of the top five finished with Jack Sodeman Jr. in second, Ed Lynch Jr. in third, Rod George in fourth, and Scott Priester in fifth.  Heat races went to Jack Sodeman Jr., Andy Priest and Steve Lines.

Carl Weatherby was the man to attain the pole position tonight for the Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Modifieds feature.  With the drop of the green Weatherby went high and took on a promising lead until he was obligated to start over when a yellow flag was thrown.  On the restart, Dean Pearson took over while a four wide battle for the top four positions went rolling down the front stretch.  Jeremiah Shingledecker and Del Rougeux Jr. made up second and third. With four laps down, Shingledecker challenged Pearson and with what seemed like instinct, stole the lead.  Rougeux followed to take over the second place.  It was an intense battle for third between Pearson, Dave Murdick, Kevin Bolland and Brian Swartzlander.  On another restart due to a caution, Bolland made his presence known to all and made it from fighting for third to leading the race in one lap!  Rougeux held on to his second place spot and Shingledecker followed in third. Bolland and Rougeux battled back and forth for the final few laps until finally the checkered flag was thrown and Bolland was declared the victor!!  Bollands win was #3 on the year and 45th of his Lernerville career.  The following top five included Del Rougeux Jr. second, Jeremiah Shingledecker third, Dave Murdick fourth, and Tom Winkle fifth.  Heat races went to Dave Murdick, Del Rougeux Jr.

The Advance Auto Parts DIRTcar Sportsman took the green flag with Wayne Carbo and Bob Egley on the front row.  Carbo led lap one, but a very eager Egley was quick to snare the lead from Carbo.  As Egley set sail out front the battle for second was awesome.  Bob Lipinski, Joe Kelley and Paul Schreckengost put on a great show for the second position.  Several laps later, Kelley got over the top of turn three and spun the car bringing out a caution with only three laps to go.  On the final restart, Egley pulled away from the rest of the field collecting his first win of the year.  The top five ended with Lipinski in second, Schreckengost in third, followed by Jim Fosnaught and Shawn Thorn to round out the top five. Heat races went to Bob Egley, Joe Kelley and Paul Schreckengost.

Special Congratulations to Lernerville PR Director Eric Westendorf and his wife Tara. They welcomed their second son Thursday.
