Not Yet! Opening Night Postponed Sarver, PA (March 27, 2008) With rain already falling at the Lernerville Speedway and a cold, gloomy forecast in store for tomorrow, General Manager Gary Risch Jr. has decided to cancel Friday March 28 race. “We try to do everything possible to get the show in at Lernerville. We worked all day preparing for Opening Night. When we broke for dinner at 7:00 the forecast had totally changed in the wrong direction since lunch. When the rain started to fall, we knew we didn’t have a chance. Mother Nature is just not a race fan this weekend! We’ll give it another go next week and hope for better weather!”
Earlier in the week, the forecast looked promising with temperatures in the mid to upper 50’s and 30% chance of rain for Friday. As the week has progressed, the forecast has gotten progressively colder and the chance of precipitation increasingly higher. The forecast now calls for morning/afternoon rain with temperatures barely cracking 40 degrees for a high in the afternoon and a chance of snow in the evening. The postponement of Opening Night means that next week, Friday April 4 Bowser Pontiac Night, will be a non-points race as we give the drivers a chance to shake the rust off the old cars and shake down and break in the new cars before the chase for the 2008 Budweiser Points Title begins. Opening Night is always an exciting event as race fans have been cooped up and race deprived for months. The drivers are even more amped as they are eager to start the season and show off their new equipment. Every driver looks forward to a new season because “Hope Springs Eternal” and everyone is a championship contender when the new season starts. With other area tracks not scheduled to open until later in April, Opening Night often attracts area drivers who may not be weekly runners at the 4/10 mile Sarver Speedplant, but long to fulfill their need for speed! As mentioned above, the chase for the 2008 Budweiser Points Championship will begin of Friday April 11 for all Fab Four Divisions with Kool Kevin Schaeffer (Commercial Truck & Trailer Sprints), Awesome Alex Ferree (Friedman’s Freshmarkets UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models) and Flyin’ Brian Swartzlander (Ferrante Motor Cars DIRTcar Modifieds) ready to defend their 2007 Track Championships. With Mike Pegher Jr. moving into the #1 Cochran Crate Late Model this season and only running a limited schedule in his 09 Street Stock, the Track Championship in the Advance Auto Parts UMP DIRTcar Street Stock division is up for grabs with Jason Fosnaught, Super Joe Kelley, Batman Bob Egley and Bob Lipinski leading the charge. The first major show of the 2008 season is now just over two weeks away as the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will invade the Action Track on Tax Day April 15 for the Showdown in Sarvertown. Tickets are on sale now by calling the Lernerville Speedway office during normal business hours (724) 353-1511.
