DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series

Announced for Western PA/Eastern OH Region

Sarver, PA (January 28, 2010) Western PA/Eastern OH Sprint Car fans rejoice!  For the first-time ever there will be a 410 Sprint Car Series in the region that will deliver all the stars and provide them a chance to race for increased purses.  Lernerville Speedway, Tri-City Speedway, Sharon Speedway and Mercer Raceway Park have collaborated on an exciting 10-race DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series for the 2010 season to crown a DIRTcar Sprint Car Regional Champion.

The DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series will feature 10 races, each paying $2,000-to-win, and a point fund that will pay out $12,000 in cash to the top ten, an amount nearly double that which tracks in the area typically pay as year-end point funds.  Lernerville and Tri-City Speedways will each host three races, while Sharon and Mercer will each host the series twice.

Lernerville’s DIRTcar Challenge dates are scheduled for Friday April 23, Friday July 30 and Saturday October 23.  The April 23 date will be the Series Opener, while the Series Finale will take place during the DIRTcar Round Up Steel City Stampede! According to Lernerville Speedway General Manager Gary Risch Jr., “We’re really excited to be able to put together something of this magnitude for our drivers and our fans.  Working with the other tracks in the area is always exciting!”

"I'm glad Tri-City Speedway is involved with a series that will benefit the Sprint car drivers," noted second year promoter Rich Hetrick. "These four tracks are the best around and it's great that we all work together to make this possible."  Tri-City has dates scheduled for Sunday May 2, Sunday July 4 and Sunday September 5.

Sharon will host the series on Wednesday July 7 for the Lou Blaney Memorial and Saturday August 7.  Sharon Speedway owner Dave Blaney cut his racing teeth in the Western PA/Eastern OH Sprint Car scene, “Anytime the local drivers can race for an increased purse and increased exposure, it’s a great situation for everyone involved.  To have this race be the focal point of the Lou Blaney Memorial Classic is perfect!”

The series will visit Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday July 31 and Saturday September 11.  MRP owner/promoter Vicki Emig can’t wait for July 31, “Mercer Raceway Park has always been focused on taking care of our local drivers.  We don’t bring in a lot of sanctioning bodies; we like to make our local drivers the stars of our show.  The DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series will certainly shine a spotlight on the local guys!”
