Murdick and the Diehl Mods are back!
Ladies Night/80s Night, oh what a night!
Sarver, PA (May 23, 2012) This Friday, May 25 marks the return of the Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Northeast Big Block Modifieds after being off last week to accommodate the Small Block Showcase for the 358 Mods. Dave Murdick leads the Budweiser Point standings over the usual suspects; Kevin Bolland, Brian Swartzlander and Defending Track Champion Jeremiah Shingledecker. Of those four, only Swartzlander has yet to make his 2012 debut in Sheetz Victory Lane, as Bolland (April 27), Shingledecker (May 4) and Murdick (May 11) have all taken checkered flags along with Opening Night feature winner Chad Brachmann.
Friday Night also is Ladies Night/80s Night at Lernerville Speedway as all ladies will be admitted at half price ($7) until 7:00 and will be eligible for a variety of ‘female friendly” door prizes throughout the night. Meanwhile, DJ Dope Dow will be spinning 80s hits all night on his not-so 1980s iPod.
Rod George, on the strength of Danny Holtgraver winning last Friday Night’s Ti22 Performance DIRTcar Sprint feature carrying George’s #CIII on his wing, has assumed the Budweiser points lead from Opening Night feature winner Kevin Schaeffer. George sustained significant chassis damage two weeks ago at Mercer Raceway Park’s All Star Circuit of Champions race and was not able to compete Friday Night on his own. Lernerville rules dictate that points are awarded to “the car”, not the driver and since Holtgraver had adopted the #CII for the evening, the points for Holtgraver’s feature win went to George’s #CIII. This is not an unprecedented move, as Scott Priester carried Carl Bowser’s #10 on his wing last summer after Carl suffered a concussion in a wreck at Mercer a week earlier. Other feature winners so far in 2012 include Brian Ellenberger, Pete Miller III and the aforementioned Carl Bowser.
Jared Miley rides atop the Precise Racing Products DIRTcar Late Model standings of the Bud Points and has two feature wins to his credit this season. World of Outlaws Late Model Series star Chub Frank has won the last two Precise Late Model features, but is hitting the road with the Outlaws this week; thus opening the door for a new feature winner this week. Gregg Satterlee is the only other driver with a Late Model feature win at the Action Track this summer. Former Three-Time Track Champion Alex Ferree has been bad fast the past two weeks and could break through for his first win since July 16, 2010.
In the Millerstown Pic-A-Part DIRTcar Sportsman/Stocks, Corey McPherson has a pair of feature wins and leads the Bud Points heading into Friday Night over Jim Fosnaught; just five markers back. Last week’s feature winner Terry Young also has two wins in 2012, with Defending Track Champion Mike Miller having also won a feature in 2012. Fosnaught has been knocking on the door to his first career Fab Four Racing feature win, though he has won the Sportsman/Stock Spectacular non-winners race.
Next Friday, June 1 is Nostalgia Night; the annual retired driver homecoming event coordinated by local racing media icon Don Gamble. Dozens of drivers and several cars are always on display for a fun night of bench racing with some of the drivers that made Don Martin’s Lernerville Speedway into the iconic symbol of dirt track racing that it is today.
