Ed Lynch Jr. finds good luck on Friday the 13th!

Gregg Satterlee, Del Rougeux Jr. pick up checkers, Pat Hanley gets first career win!

Sarver, PA (June 13, 2008) Friday the 13th is supposed to bring bad luck.  But for three guys who have been experiencing a lot of bad luck in 2008, it brought great fortune and trips to Sheetz Victory Lane!  It also brought good luck to a long time driver who picked up his first career feature win!

Ed Lynch Jr. (#2L of Apollo) dominated the Commercial Truck & Trailer Sprint Car feature after seemingly countless weeks of bad luck, both on the track and mechanically.  But there were no gremlins to be found tonight as the Apollo Rocket blasted off at the green flag, took the lead on lap three and ran away with his 2nd CTT Sprint feature win of the season, 90th of his prestigious career!  The race was only slowed once as Gale Ruth Jr. rolled over in turns one & two on lap five.  From lap five on, Lynch was untouchable on a hard, slick track.  He knifed his way through lapped traffic and by the time he took the checkers he was a half lap ahead of second place Bob Felmlee and had lapped all but the top six.  The 90th sprint car win is Lynch’s 91st overall win at Lernerville Speedway.

Behind Lynch was a fantastic five car battle for positions two through six between Kevin Schaeffer, Rod George, Bob Felmlee, Charlie Holben and Scott Priester.  Swapping positions many times throughout the race, the five drivers were wheel-to-wheel during the long 21 lap green flag session to the checkers.  When the dust settled, Bud Points Leader Bob Felmlee (#6F of Seneca), who started 12th by virtue of last week’s feature win, came home second.  Charlie Holben (in the Dionise #15 of Cabot) ran another strong race and scored a season best third place finish.  Kittanning drivers Rod George (#4) and Kevin Schaeffer (#9) rounded out the top five.  Scott Priester (#11 of Rimersburg) was the only other driver to finish on the lead lap in sixth.  Gary Rankin (#16 of Renfrew) also shook some early season gremlins by finishing seventh, his best finish of 2008!  Brent Matus, Ralph Spithaler and Carl Bowser rounded out the top ten.  Ralph Spithaler and Scott Bonnell claimed heat race victories.

With impending thunderstorms converging from Ohio, the Friedman’s Freshmarkets UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models hustled onto the track next with Gregg Satterlee and Gary Lyle leading the 24 car field to the green flag.  Last week, Satterlee was collected in one of the first lap crashes and didn’t complete a single lap in the feature.  This week, however, would be much different as Satterlee (#22 of Rochester Mills) jumped into the lead at the green flag on the low side which quickly became the preferred line of the race!  Satterlee was largely uncontested for much of the race that went green up until the closing laps.  As the laps ticked away, Matt Lux (#21 of Franklin) slowly, but surely, made his way from the ninth starting spot through the field.  By lap 21, oddly enough, Lux was closing in on leader Satterlee in lapped traffic.  The yellow flag flew as the leaders raced down the back straightaway on the last lap, resulting in a green/white/checker finish.  On the restart, Lux used the high line to momentarily take the lead in turns one & two, but Satterlee wasn’t having it and reclaimed the lead on the back straightaway.  Two laps later, Satterlee beat Lux across the line, picking up his first Lernerville feature win of the season.

Second place finisher Matt Lux was followed across the stripe by Reigning Track Champion Alex Ferree (#4 of Saxonburg) who wasn’t able to get any momentum from his patented high line around the Action Track.  Kenny Schaltenbrand (#29 of Sarver) has always been a beast on a dry slick track in which the low groove is the fast way around the 4/10 mile Sarver Speedplant.  He spent laps four through twelve in second place before giving way to Lux and Ferree.  Schaltenbrand’s fourth place finish was his best of the season!  Keith Barbara (#17 of South Park) was back in action, and like so many others who have been plagued by bad luck early in 2008, recorded his third fifth place finish of the season!  Gary Lyle, Dutch Davies, last week’s feature winner John Mollick, Bud Points Leader Lynn Geisler and Mike Blose rounded out the top ten on division sponsor Friedman’s Freshmarkets Night at the speedway.  Heat race checkers were taken by Gary Lyle, Matt Lux and Alex Ferree.

Though fourth in Bud Points, Del Rougeux Jr.’s 2008 season has not started off exactly as planned.  But, once again, on a night that usually spells doom, Rougeux (#20D of Frenchville) pulled into Sheetz Victory Lane and threw the proverbial monkey off his back for his first Lernerville win of the season in the Ferrante Motor Cars DIRTcar Modified division!  Though he led each of the last 24 laps, Rougeux’s win was no walk in the park.  After passing early leader Garrett Krummert on lap three, Rougeux had a rearview mirror-full of Dave Murdick, Brian Swartzlander and finally Kevin Bolland.  Despite never relinquishing the lead, his back bumper was under constant assault as the race behind him for spots two through six was a clean, hard fought battle between Murdick, Swartzlander, Bolland, Krummert, Tim Doran and, (by the end of the race), last week’s feature winner Jeremiah Shingledecker.  ERacer’s Bonus Bucks driver Kevin Bolland (#777 of New Brighton) chased Rougeux from lap ten to the checkers, but despite his best efforts and a caution on lap 24, Revvin’ Kevin was never able to get around Rougeux on the high side to make an attempt to pass for the lead.

Budweiser Points Leader and Reigning Track Champion Brian Swartzlander (#83 of Leechburg) followed Rougeux and Bolland across the stripe for third.  Last week’s feature winner Jeremiah Shingledecker (#37MD of Polk) came from twelfth to get into the mix and finish fourth.  “Double Duty” Dave Murdick (#61 of Slippery Rock) rounded out the top five.  The top ten shook out like this; Tim Doran, Mike Turner, Garrett Krummert, Tom Winkle and rookie Erik Martin.  Martin’s 10th place finish is his first top ten of his Lernerville Modified career!  Heat races went to Brian Swartzlander and Dave Murdick.

The curtains came down on the evening’s action literally seconds after Pat Hanley scored his first career feature win in the Advance Auto Parts UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks.  As the cars lined up to scale, the sky opened up and the rains finally soaked the Action Track.  Hanley (#380 of Monroeville) celebrated his first career feature win in Budweiser Alternate Victory Lane which is under the cover of the turn four grandstand, because Sheetz Victory Lane was getting pounded with rain!  Before the rains came, the stocks raced their first 20 lap feature of the season, in lieu of the former 15 lap feature length, with Matt Keith (#15K of Franklin) and Shawn Thorn (#12 of Murrysville) on the front row.  However, it was Wayne Carbo, (#54 of Saxonburg) who took the lead on the opening lap.  Eight place starter Bob Lipinski (#55 of Pittsburgh) was shot out of a cannon moving into the top five on the opening lap and into second on lap three.   By lap five, Lipinski had drawn even with Carbo and took the lead on the back straightaway on circuit six.  He led the next few laps, but during a caution on lap ten, Lipinski went pitside, relinquishing the lead the Carbo.  On the restart, Jason Fosnaught (#J19 of Creighton) raced door-to-door with Wayne Carbo, but as they raced for the lead around the bottom of the track, Pat Hanley zoomed past both drivers and into the lead in turns one & two on lap 11.  Hanley quickly stretched his lead to five-six car lengths and raced relatively unchallenged across the finish line.

Bob Egley (#30 of Kittanning) seemingly came out of nowhere mid-race, got around Jason Fosnaught and tried to give chase for the lead, but settled for second.  Jason Fosnaught and Wayne Carbo finished third fourth respectively.  Budweiser Points Leader Joe Kelley (#66 of Mt. Pleasant) raced home with another points-boosting top five finish.  Jim Fosnaught (#20J of Bairdford) had his best finish of the season with a sixth place run.  Shawn Thorn, Dave “Brew” Baker, Chuck Gabauer and Greg Beach rounded out the Advance Stocks top ten.  Kelley and Carbo captured heat race wins.
