Mike Johnson and Jack Sodeman Jr. Win First of the Season!

Dave Murdick and Joe Kelley are Repeat Winners

$6400+ raised for Charlie Holben

Sarver, PA (June 11, 2010) A capacity crowd was on hand for #1 Cochran Fan Appreciation Night as Fab Four Racing was complimented by an exhilarating fireworks display by Premier Pyrotechnics.  Mike Johnson led wire-to-wire over a loaded field of veteran Late Model aces.  Jack Sodeman Jr. won the Ti22 Performance DIRTcar Sprint feature by holding off a hard charging Danny Holtgraver.  Dave Murdick won his second straight Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Modified feature and Super Joe Kelley won his second straight Charapp Route 28 DIRTcar Sportsman feature!

Drivers from all divisions of Fab Four Racing walked into the stands with their helmets and collected over $6400 from the “Greatest Fans in the World” for Charlie Holben’s recovery fund!  Thank you all so very much!

After National Guard Heat Race competition came to a close with Dave Hess Jr., Jared Miley and Mike Johnson (DIRTcar Late Models); Danny Holtgraver, Rod George and Carl Bowser (Ti22 Performance DIRTcar Sprints); Kevin Bolland and Brian Swartzlander (Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Modifieds); Jim Fosnaught and Bob Egley (Charapp Route 28 DIRTcar Sportsman) all victorious, it was feature time as the folks from #1 Cochran Automotive looked on awaiting a thrilling fireworks display by Premier Pyrotechnics.

Being #1 Cochran Night, the DIRTcar Late Models, featuring longtime #1 Cochran Late Model driver Lynn Geisler, rolled onto the Action Track.  For most of this season, and really the past two or three seasons, the Late Model field has been peppered with a bevy of “Generation Now” drivers; the young, up-and-comers like Gregg Satterlee, Matt Lux, Jared Miley, Alex Ferree and Dave Hess Jr.  And while Miley, Ferree and Hess were in competition, Friday Night’s feature was really more about the veteran Late Model Aces.  Other than Budweiser Points Leader Dave Hess Jr., the rest of the top five was a veteran crew with decades of experience on their collective resumes.

Perhaps in a tune-up for the impending 4th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com, Mike Johnson, Davey Johnson, Ron Davies and John Flinner were on hand to show the younger guys that they can still get around the 4/10-mile speedplant and contend for checkered flag glory.  But despite the lofty achievements of “The Juice” Davey Johnson, 1990 Track Champion Ron Davies and former Five-Time Track Champion John Flinner, it was Mike Johnson that dominated the 25-lap feature as his peers battled for position behind him.

Mike Johnson started on the pole, flanked by Doug Eck, and took the quick lead when the green flag was shown to the field.  Dave Hess Jr. slid underneath Eck in turns three & four to take second.  John Flinner took third as Ron Davies battled Dan Swartzlander (behind the wheel of a newer, former Chub Frank Rocket chassis) for fourth.  Contact between Swartzlander and Davies resulted in a flat left rear and a yellow flag for Swartzlander.  For most of the final 20 laps, the only battle was between Davies and Flinner for third.  After a final caution on lap 14, the top six (Johnson, Hess, Flinner, Davies, Johnson and Miley) ran nose-to-tail to the checkered flag.  For Mike Johnson it was his second career Lernerville Feature Win.

By crossing the finish line second, Hess increases his Budweiser Points lead to almost a full night’s worth of points over sixth place finisher Jared Miley.  In the closing laps, Davey Johnson (third) drove around both Ron Davies (fourth) and John Flinner (fifth).  Behind Miley were Three-Time Defending Track Champion Alex Ferree, Brian Swartzlander,  Lynn Geisler (in the #1 Cochran Late Model) and Kenny Schaltenbrand to round out the top ten.

The Ti22 Performance DIRTcar Sprints pushed off second with Ed Lynch Jr. on the pole.  On most nights, during most years, everyone else would be racing for second.  But with the top cushion being the fast way around and the snake bitten luck of the “Apollo Rocket” so far during the 2010 season, Lynch’s first feature win of the 2010 season, simply was not in the cards!  At the drop of the green flag, it was outside polesitter Jack Sodeman Jr., not Lynch, whom jumped out to a quick lead.  Lynch took advantage of the lap seven restart to take the lead away from Sodeman through turns one & two, but Sodeman put a slidejob on Lynch in three & four to maintain the lead at the flagstand.  Lynch returned the slidejob to retake the lead in one & two, then blocked Sodeman’s slider attempt in three & four to officially take the lead on lap eight.

Surely at the point, Lynch would check out to his 103rd career Lernerville Feature Win right?  Not this year!  While navigating lapped traffic on lap 17, Lynch checked up to avoid a lapped car on the front stretch and the #2L spun to a stop near the infield jersey barrier to bring out the caution and surrender the lead to Jack Sodeman Jr.  With Lynch safely at the tail, Sodeman cruised to his second career Lernerville Feature win.  A thrilled Sodeman climbed his tail tank and waved the checkered flag!

Sodeman’s only challenge in the final eight laps came from the white hot Danny Holtgraver who continued his streak of top three finishes with a career-best tying second place finish.  Holtgraver finished third last week during the All Star feature and almost reeled in Sodeman last night during the final two laps amidst heavy lapped traffic.  But his first career feature win will have to wait at least one more week!  His second place finish did unofficially put Holtgraver in second place in the Budweiser Point Standings.

Current Budweiser Points Leader and Defending Track Champion Rod George finished third.  Carl Bowser, (winner of the most recent Ti22 Sprint Feature on Friday May 28), came from 12th to finish fourth.  Bob Felmlee came from 11th to finish fifth.  The Ti22 Top Ten rounded out with Dan Kuriger (making his 2010 Lernerville debut), Ed Lynch Jr., Russ Sansosti, Andy McKisson and Brian Steinman (whom recorded his first career top ten!).

After Sodeman’s Sheetz Victory Lane celebration, the guys from Premier Pyrotechnics lit up the sky with another amazing fireworks display, followed by the annual #1 Cochran Parade of Vehicles!

“Double Duty” Dave Murdick pulled single duty Friday Night as gremlins claimed the Pitkavish #1 Late Model before heat race competition.  But just like Jack Sodeman Jr. did in the previous feature, Murdick launched from the outside pole to take the lead at the drop of the green flag of the Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Modified feature.  Bud Points leader Kevin Bolland starte on the inside pole, but could only chase Murdick for 25 laps waiting for the former Two-Time Track Champion to make a mistake.  But that mistake never came, and Murdick won his 17th career Modified feature, tying him with Bob Wearing Jr. for 10th All Time in the division.

Bolland stretched his points lead to seven over Brian Swartzlander by finishing second.  Swartzlander fought with Dean Pearson for third for the entire duration of the 25-lapper, and ultimately settled for fourth as Pearson prevailed for third.  Del Rougeux Jr. charged from tenth to fifth.  The Diehl Top Ten rounded out with May 28’s feature winner Jeremiah Shingledecker, Jim Weller Jr., Brad Rapp, Steve Feder and Tom Winkle (whom made his 2010 Lernerville Speedway debut).

After his sixth feature win of the season, it starts to become difficult to find the words to express Joe Kelley’s dominance of the Charapp Route 28 DIRTcar Sportsman division!  While everyone else was running the top of the turns, Kelley was driving past them all along the bottom with forward bite that nobody else could muster.  After starting 12th again, Kelley worked his way through the field.  By lap seven, Kelley was in fifth and picked off the leaders one at a time on successive laps; taking fourth from Ryan Moyer on lap eight, third from Corey McPherson on lap nine, second from Jim Fosnaught on lap 10 and the lead from Terry Young on lap 11.  Once out front it was academic as Kelley motored away to his sixth feature win of the season and division leading 38th of his career.

Jim Fosnaught ran a great race, good enough to win on most nights, but finished second behind Kelley.  Wayne Carbo also scored his best finish of the season with a third place run.  Ryan Moyer continues to run strong and finished fourth.  Eric Piotrowski scored the first top five of his career at Lernerville Speedway!  The Charapp 28 Top Ten rounded out with Brent McDonald, Bob Egley, AJ Flick, Paul Schreckengost and Mark Sanders.  Flick’s eighth place finish was the best of his young career!

Next Friday June 18 is Mid-Season Championship Night for all divisions of Fab Four Racing.  The DIRTcar Lates and Ti22 Sprints will be racing for track provisionals in the 4th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com and the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup XIX Twin 30s!  Speaking of the 4th Annual Firecracker 100 presented by GottaRace.com, the Crown Jewel event is less than two weeks away!  Buy your Advance Three-Day Package for just $59 today and receive free pit pass upgrades for Thursday and Friday Nights.  Log on to www.Lernerville.com and click the “Buy Tickets” icon or call the speedway office at (724) 353-1511!!
