Inside Line Promotions – SARVER, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2018) – Brian Brown produced a pair of top-10 finishes while making his season debut at a pair of Pennsylvania tracks last weekend.

The action began on Thursday at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, where Brown qualified second quickest and advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race to move into the feature redraw. Unfortunately, he pulled the highest number – eight – to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the A Main.

“We had a pretty good night at BAPS,” he said. “We qualified well and then went fourth to third in the heat. We drew the eight in the feature, but it was pretty tough to pass.”

Brown was credited with a fifth-place result after the race ended early because of a crash that resulted in the passing of legend Greg Hodnett.

“The whole situation there just sucks for our sport to lose a guy like Greg, who was an icon in the sport,” Brown said. “He was not just a great race car driver, but a great person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, Sherry and the Heffner Racing team.

“With Williams Grove and Lincoln canceling, I thought that was great to do in honor of Greg. We chose to go to Lernerville on Saturday. I hadn’t been there in 14 years as Johnny Gibson said. We went out late and laid a good lap down.”

Brown qualified fourth quickest before he placed second in a heat race. Once again, Brown drew the highest number – eight – for the dash redraw to start last. He finished in that position to line up eighth for the Commonwealth Clash A Main.

“It’s a tricky track,” he said. “It gets very slick. It’s kind of a sandy, low-grip track so it’s tough to get a hold of. It has a real thin cushion against the edge. Throughout the night we made some improvements with our car that really helped come feature-time.

“We got to fifth one time. We were pretty good, but faded a bit. The caution came out late and we were able to get to ninth. For a place we hadn’t been to for 14 years it was a pretty good night. Hopefully we’ll carry that into the National Open. It’s one of our premier events of our sport and one you want to have a good performance at.”

Brown, who finished ninth at Lernerville Speedway, will compete this Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., during the Champion Racing Oil National Open with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

“There’s only three or four marquee events in sprint car racing and the National Open has always been one,” he said. “You want to run well at the Knoxville Nationals, the Kings Royal and the National Open. Those are the triple crown races. Williams Grove is very, very tricky. Just because you run well at Knoxville and Eldora doesn’t mean you’ll come in and have success. It’s a unique, paperclip track. The driver has to do a lot to make his car do certain things. It will be a big challenge.”
